Different types of methods are there but in general below four methods are used further that depends on which kind of look is required.

  • Standard Method: In this method, normal batch of concrete, cement, sand, water and crushed stone is used and mixed to produce exposed aggregate surface. Basically when concrete is poured, it is left for an hour or so to harden slightly after that fine particles are removed and surface is swept strenuously by using broom that results in emerging gravel and stone particles.
  • Seeded: As the name indicates, gravel or crushed stone are placed by manually in the freshly poured concrete exactly like the planting seeds in the ground, other than the surface stone is left sticking out the top of the concrete.
  • Topping: Here in this method new thinly batch of concrete is mixed and overlaid on top of the older one to make it slip resistance surface. Thicker stones are pulled out along the surface.
  • Polished: Unlike above all in this method rather leaving the aggregates exposed with a textured surface, a grinder or sander is used to flatten the surface and make it level. Several layers of clear coat sealer are applied to create a shiny, polished surface.
